The Lassiter High School Marching Band is one of only 13 high school bands, worldwide, invited to perform in the 2019 Tournament of Roses Parade on January 1. To help pay for the trip, the Cobb County band is conducting fundraisers to cover the costs of transporting hundreds of students, directors and equipment to Pasadena, Calif.

“To be invited to perform in the historic, 130th annual Tournament of Roses Parade is an honor for Lassiter band students, and it also reflects well on Cobb County and all of Georgia,” said Lassiter Bands Director James Thompson. “We’ve been working hard on music and marching since July, and now we’re also focused on raising enough money so that all our students will be able to take part in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

One of several planned fundraisers, the Lassiter Band Mattress Sale, will take place Saturday, Aug. 25 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the Lassiter High School Band Room. A wide range of name-brand mattresses and related items are available. For more information visit the Mattress Sale Facebook event page.

Ongoing fundraisers include:

  • Jeep Raffle: Lassiter band families are now selling raffle tickets for a chance to win a 2018 Jeep Wrangler 4×4, donated by Ed Voyles, or $15,000 cash. Raffle tickets are $10 each and may be purchased from Lassiter Band students, parents, or by emailing JeepRaffle@lbba.org.
  • Online: make a direct donation to the Lassiter Band at com/donateamile.
  • Check: send a personal check to donation to LBBA, P.O. Box 670253, Marietta, GA 30066.

100% of all donations made through CrowdRise, checks and cash will support the band’s trip to the Tournament of Roses, and may be tax deductible.

“These kids work hard, for hours at a time in the summer heat to prepare a world-class show, and I don’t want a single child to miss this trip because of a lack of money,” said the band’s booster club president Rob Boschen. “I hope our community will help us make sure every kid makes it to the Rose Parade.”

The Lassiter Marching Band will perform in the East Cobber Parade on Sept. 15, 2018, and in the Marietta Veteran’s Day Parade on Nov. 11, 2018. For more information visit lassiterbands.org.
