Woolfson Eye Institute is soon opening its first Cobb County location in October. The renowned eye care practice is currently renovating the former Wells Fargo bank located on Sandy Plains Road with plans of delivering exceptional eye care to Cobb residents. The recent expansion of the practice to Marietta is accompanied by similarly timed openings in Canton and Snellville. Woolfson also has Georgia locations in Sandy Springs Lawrenceville, Cumming, Douglasville, and College Park. After nearly a decade of plans and discussions to launch the new Marietta location, Dr. Tom Spetalnick stated that, “It’s been something we’ve always had as a goal, but getting it done has an exciting challenge. Marietta has been at the top of our expansion wish list.”

In 2001, Dr. Jonathan Woolfson and Dr. Spetalnick broke away from a large North American company providing LASIK, and established Custom Laser Eye, renamed Woolfson Eye Institute in 2005. In the hopes of caring for and treating a wide array of primarily surgical eye care, ophthalmology sub-specialists have been added to the group over the last 20 years. While caring for a variety of eye disorders, they also function as a teaching clinic and a referral destination for patients of local optometrists and ophthalmologists.WOOLFSON EYE INSTITUTE IS COMING TO MARIETTA 1

“Working with Jonathan Woolfson has been a successful partnership because he and I have a good friendship, a good working relationship, and similar philosophies regarding working with our patients and with the doctors referring patients,” said Dr. Spetalnick. He added, “For me, just being involved in the refractive surgery part of practice is enough to keep me motivated and teaching those kinds of things to our optometry students is something I find enormously rewarding.”

Dr. Spetalnick will continue to work primarily at the Sandy Springs location, but several of the Woolfson surgeons and optometrists will be providing care at the new Marietta location: Lauren Dyak, OD and Gabriela Gutierrez, OD will see LASIK, keratoconus, and dry eye patients. Victor Liou, MD will see oculoplastic patients. Jenna Yoder, DO will serve as the glaucoma specialist. Rabbea Janjua, MD will be Marietta’s retinal specialist, and Eric Jennings, MD will provide services for cornea, cataract, and refractive surgery patients.

Patients seen for LASIK surgery will initially be offered surgery at one of the other nearby Woolfson locations, to be performed by Jonathan Woolfson, MD and by Dr. Jennings. With the new Marietta office, Dr. Spetalnick is pleased that some patients will no longer have to make the long commute to see them. “We’ve built a dream team of the most talented surgeons, so it’s very gratifying as an optometrist being able to hand my patients over to such talented physicians.”

“With an office adjacent to the Northwest corridor in Cobb County, the Marietta office will likely serve as a second hub, comparable to the Sandy Springs location. It’ll be nice to be able to bring our services to the people rather than make the people come a long distance to see us.” Opening next month, Woolfson Eye Institute’s Marietta location will be located at 2687 Sandy Plains Road near Sprayberry High School.
