40th Annual Marietta Art in the Park Heads to the Square for Labor Day Weekend, Saturday, Sept. 5 – Monday, Sept. 7
It’s almost time for the 40th Annual Marietta Art in the Park, the three-day event that brings the historic Marietta Square to life with an artist market, children’s activities, chalk art and collaborative art projects. This outdoor event, presented by the Marietta Business Association, is free to attend!
The only fine art festival in Cobb County, Marietta Art in the Park has earned numerous awards and recognitions from organizations including Sunshine Artist Magazine and the Southeast Tourism Society. Each year, the three-day event draws some 55,000 visitors to enjoy its fine arts and crafts, along with live music and family-friendly activities.
JURIED ARTIST MARKET
With 200 fine artists from throughout the country, the juried Artist Market features fine handcrafted works in a variety of mediums, such as painting, photography, pottery, graphic arts, sculpture, jewelry and more. Visitors will find offerings at a variety of price points too.
Best of all, artists are on-site for daily demonstrations and interactions, enhancing the art buying experience.
For the 40th anniversary, Art in the Park will include an Artist Showcase – a special area highlighting additional top-notch art and artists.
GRAFFITI MURAL
In celebration of the anniversary, Art in the Park will also feature a collaborative mural project. Graffiti artist Rich Dennard, owner of ATLbench, will be on-site designing an 8-by-16-ft. Marietta Art in the Park mural on Saturday, Sept. 5. Festival attendees can join in to help create this one-of-a-kind piece of art that will remain on display throughout the event, making a perfect photo spot.
CHALK ART ON THE STREET
In addition to the Artist Market, Art in the Park includes Chalk Spot, the street art experience that allows registrants to create their own masterpieces.
Taking place Saturday, Sept. 5, Chalk Spot provides 3-ft. square spaces on a closed street to young artists who will draw individual designs that will remain on display throughout festival weekend (weather permitting).
The fee to participate in Chalk Spot is $10, and pre-registration is not required. As it has for several years, Chalk Spot benefits the Marietta High School Visual Arts Program. Participating children will receive a box of sidewalk chalk and two tickets to the North Georgia State Fair (while supplies last).
CHILDREN’S ART ALLEY
From Chalk Spot to Children’s Art Alley, Art in the Park has plenty to offer young attendees. In this dedicated kids’ zone, visitors will find activities, games and crafts for children. Many activities in Children’s Art Alley are free, while some, such as face painting and sand art, require a nominal fee.
US FLAG REPLICA
Using materials sourced through the donations of gently used t-shirts and a loom, the Marietta Arts Council will create a replica of the U.S. flag at Art in the Park in honor of the country’s 250th anniversary. Throughout the three festival days, visitors will have the chance to participate and add their own touch to this unique, eco-friendly piece of textile art. The completed flag will be donated to the Marietta Fire Museum and remain on display permanently.
DRINKING & DINING
Rather than the typical festival fare or food trucks, Art in the Park celebrates the many local eateries that call the historic square home. Dining options are varied and offer indoor and outdoor seating. Additionally, beer, wine, soft drinks and water will be sold throughout the festival site.
MUSICAL GAZEBO
Art in the Park attendees can bring blankets and chairs to kick back and relax while local singer/songwriters perform live in the square’s central gazebo. All musical performances can be enjoyed free of charge.
LOCAL AMENITIES
While attending Art in the Park, visitors also have the chance to enjoy the surrounding shops, boutiques, museums and galleries. Another fun option is taking a self-guided walking tour of the city’s historic district.

The Marietta City Hall Parking Deck (205 Lawrence Street) has free weekend and weekday evening parking, and free on-street parking is available around Marietta Square.
