The Cobb Board of Commissioners approved a zoning request for a personal care home located on Johnson Ferry Road.
Hammocks at East Cobb, is a proposed 72-unit senior living complex at 1551 Johnson Ferry Road, near the Johnson Ferry Road Target.
The 3.7-acre property, previously home to Sunrise at East Cobb—a nursing and personal care facility built in 1997 that closed earlier this year—was sold to Hammocks at East Cobb in May for $1.79 million, according to county property tax records.
Hammocks at East Cobb plans to renovate the building for its senior living development. The facility will feature a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments, along with upgrades to the exterior and necessary repairs. Amenities inside the building will include an activity room, gym, conference room, mailroom, salon, and bistro for residents.
The applicant also proposed refurbishing the courtyard area, adding 16 parking spaces, and constructing six independent cottage units along Johnson Ferry Road. To accommodate the cottages, Hammocks requested a variance to reduce the front setback from 50 to 40 feet.
Initially, the East Cobb Civic Association opposed the proposal, which led to the case being pulled from the consent agenda. After discussions, the applicant agreed to the association’s conditions, enabling the proposal to return to the consent agenda.
The Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the project in a 5-0 vote, including the requested variance and the letter of agreed-upon conditions.
