Forecasters warn that significant ice accumulation is possible, with totals of up to four-tenths of an inch. This level of icing could lead to power outages, downed trees, and extremely dangerous travel conditions.

Travel may become nearly impossible, and Monday morning’s commute could be severely impacted.

Cobb County Monitors and Prepares for Upcoming Winter Storm

Cobb County crews are preparing for the possibility of winter weather this weekend and potential impacts to county government operations early next week. Forecasters are calling for potentially dangerous ice accumulations across north Georgia, and low temperatures could allow icy conditions to persist into the early part of the work week.
Governor Brian Kemp has declared a State of Emergency for the entire state through Thursday.

County Manager Dr. Jackie McMorris met with county department leaders Thursday morning to discuss storm preparations and response planning.

The Cobb County Department of Transportation is developing a staffing plan and will continue to monitor the approaching system to determine when to begin proactively treating roadways. Most of the storm’s impact is expected to involve icy conditions, which can be especially challenging to address. Drivers are urged to avoid travel if roads become slick, both for their safety and to give crews the best opportunity to stay ahead of deteriorating conditions.

Residents are encouraged to prepare for the weather event by:Completing any necessary preparations before the weekend,  Canceling or adjusting weekend plans to avoid travel. Ensuring they have access to alerting devices, including options that will function during power outages. Residents can also download the county’s CobbGov app to receive notifications about closures and other critical updates.
