Windy Hill Road @ I-75 Diverging Diamond Interchange

Windy Hill Road lane closure at I-75 Overpass to cause significant delays and congestion
One westbound lane on Windy Hill Road is closed across the I-75 bridge overpass as work continues on the Diverging Diamond Interchange. This lane closure will cause significant delays and traffic congestion for all traffic heading westbound on Windy Hill Road through the interchange, particularly, traffic traveling west to the I-75 south on-ramp and traffic going Windy Hill Road west to the I-75 north on-ramp.

This lane closure will continue indefinitely.

For up-to-the minute traffic 24/7, log onto www.cobbcommute.org or find us on Facebook or Twitter (@CobbDOT).

This project consists of upgrading the Windy Hill Road Interchange at I-75 to a diverging diamond layout. A Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) is designed to increase capacity and decrease congestion at intersections, while minimizing construction cost. The DDI will eliminate the existing left turn signals for vehicles accessing I-75, thereby eliminating potential crossing conflicts between vehicles and enhancing safety.

The contractor is not planning to work Saturday and Sunday.

East of I-75, the existing seven lanes will be reconstructed as six lanes with a raised median. Also included in the project are construction of urban shoulders with 5-foot wide sidewalks and 2-foot wide to 6-foot wide landscaping strips along Windy Hill Road, throughout the project limits. In addition, the intersections at North Park Place, South Park Place, Interstate North Parkway West, Spectrum Circle and the interstate ramps will be upgraded with additional turn lanes and raised medians. An additional westbound lane, from approximately 400 feet east of Powers Ferry Road to the Spectrum Circle/Interstate North Parkway intersection is also being constructed.
