On Tuesday, March 21, Cobb County voters went to the polls to decide on whether the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST V) to fund capital improvements should continue for an additional five years. With 25,106 “YES” (73.85%) votes counted versus the 8,888 (26.15%) “NO” votes cast, the one penny tax was approved.
The SPLOST V revenue will help construct hundreds of new classrooms, increase safety and security, and upgrade technology throughout the district. “I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to the voters of Cobb County for their continued support of our school district,” said Superintendent Chris Ragsdale. “SPLOST V will provide needed resources to support our schools and staff in reaching our goal of student success.
SPLOST V will provide replacement facilities at East Valley, Harmony Leland and King Springs Elementary Schools, and a new Smyrna area middle school.
Expenditures under SPLOST V include the following:
New/Replacement Facilities $165,000,000
Additions/Modifications $206,000,000
Infrastructure/Individual School Needs $103,000,000
Safety, Security, and Support $150,022,000
Academic/Technology $173,000,000
Every one of Cobb’s 114 schools will see improvements through Ed-SPLOST V (2019-2023). Check with your school principal or visit www.cobbk12.org/splost/SPLOSTVNotebook_Complete.pdf for a current list of planned projects.
