The Foothills District of the Boy Scouts conducted an Eagle Scout Boards of Review in November. The new Eagle Scouts from East Cobb County are: Mike Grimshaw (Troop 1776), and Lane Dorough (Troop 435). The Foothills District serves nearly 4,000 young men and women in Scouting programs
in East Cobb and the City of Marietta. The Eagle Scout is the highest rank awarded in Scouting. “In order to become an Eagle Scout, a youth must actively participate in a Boy Scout Troop for several years, earning the Life Rank by providing leadership to the troop and service to the community. The youth must plan and lead a service project involving fellow scouts and other youth peers, subject to the approval of the beneficiary organization and oversight by Scout leaders.
The youth must then complete a Board of Review with adults from his troop committee, the community, and volunteers from the Boy Scout district that supports his unit,” says Eric Flamm, the Foothills District Eagle Scout Board of Review Coordinator.
Mike Grimshaw gathered supplies and conducted a food drive for St. Vincent DePaul’s Food Pantry at St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Lane Dorough renovated the playground at The Salvation Army Marietta Corps Community Center. Mike Grimshaw is a Junior at Pope High School. Lane Dorough is a Senior at Walton High School.
