Celebrate Earth Day at Bulloch Hall

Saturday, April 24 check out Bulloch Hall for a full day of outdoor family fun!

Get out in nature with on Saturday April 24. Bulloch Hall in Roswell, Georgia, will host hands-on activities, tours, and games highlighting nature, wildlife, and gardening that are fun and educational for both children and adults. Participants are encouraged to also bring a blanket and picnic lunch and then finish their day with a tour of historic Bulloch Hall.

In case of heavy rain, the event will be cancelled and full refund offered. There are two ticket options:

  • Earth Day Activities Participant (ages 5+) $7
  • Earth Day Activities plus Bulloch Hall House Tour (ages 13+) $10, children enter house for free.

Schedule of Events, April 24, 2021, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Gardening activity, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Observe the garden. What do you see growing now? Why do we want to take the weeds out of the garden? How do we know if the soil is good, if it has enough nutrients to feed the plants? Learn about gardening while helping plant a spring “Three Sisters” garden. Roswell Historic Assets horticulturist, Helen Wenham, will be on hand to answer questions, demonstrate soil preparation and planting, and give pointers on planting your own garden. We’ll post updates on the garden throughout the summer.

Location: kitchen garden next to the carriage house.

Seed comparison and planting, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Look at seeds and describe them. Compare seeds and sort them according to the plants that grow from them. Now plant your own seeds to take home and label your containers. Location: next to carriage house

Tree Tour, 10 a.m. and noon. Kayla Hicks, City of Roswell arborist, takes families on a tour of the grounds at Bulloch Hall, pointing out various trees and their identifying qualities such as leaf shape, bark, flower, color, seeds, etc. This tour includes historic trees from the mid-nineteenth century that were planted by the Bulloch family. Location: begin at pond behind pavilion.

Family picnic, Ongoing 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Bring your own picnic and spread out on the lawn, around the pond or in the garden at Bulloch. Members of Keep Roswell Beautiful will be hosting an information table that includes information about how to have your property certified as a Wildlife Habitat. They will also have a hands-on recycling game and information on Earth-friendly programs. Nikki Belmonte, City of Roswell Environmental Education Coordinator, will share information about the Recycling Center and watershed protection.

Rachel Carson: A Sense of Wonder, 1-1:20 p.m., 1:40-2 p.m. Cathy Kaemmerlen will perform a 20-minute family-friendly program based on environmentalist Rachel Carson’s book The Sense of Wonder.
