McDonough Caribbean Cultural Festival. The Caribbean Association of Georgia, Inc. (CAG) Caribbean Cultural Festival, sponsored by the City of McDonough, will be a day of celebration of music, culture, and fun. The event is one of several events celebrated in June as it is recognized nationally as Caribbean Heritage Month. The event will feature Caribbean headliners (singers, musicians, dancers) and food, art, and clothing vendors. This family-friendly event will feature a kids’ zone, live entertainment, authentic Caribbean cuisine, and more.

Sewell Park Pool. Cobb County provides an outdoor pool and water park, open during the summer for nominal admission fees. Sewell Park Pool features a swimming pool with both shallow and deep water, diving board, a zero-depth splash pad, and a water park.

Cost: Age 3-17: $3.50/resident; $5.25/non-residents, Adults: $4.50/residents, $6.75/non-residents. season pass for a family of 4: $212/residents, $318/non-residents. 

Time: Through July 31 daily: 1-6pm; Holidays (6/19, 7/4, 9/4):1-5pm. July31-September 3: Saturday and Sundays 1-6pm.

Summer Movie Marathon Dress in cosplay, and head down to the Black Box Theatre to watch the original Star Wars trilogy on the big screen! This program is for all ages. All movies are rating PG. The Trilogy continues Tuesday and Wednesday.

Blue Heron Nature Preserve. The preserve is a 30-acre haven for nature in an urban environment dedicated to preserving the natural and native world that exists within the Preserve.  Located in Buckhead, it serves as a home for a variety of wildlife and native plant species with trails to enjoy.

Thursday, June 29

The Rock Garden. Located behind the Calhoun Seventh-day Adventist Church, a volunteer built, folk art pleasance is a must-see! In addition to the acre of flowers and greenery, there are more than 50 diminutive buildings all crafted from tiny stones, pebbles, shells and odd pieces. The miniature castles and cathedrals provide a perfect photo opportunity for children of all ages!

FRIDAY, JUNE 30

Fernbank Science Center. Come experience science at this hands-on museum.  The museum houses several different exhibits-including Apollo 6 capsule and live animals, a planetarium and an observatory.  

The Dr. Ralph L. Buice, Jr. Observatory at Fernbank Science Center houses a 0.9 meter (36-inch) Cassegrain reflector beneath a 10 meter (30 ft.) dome. This is one of the largest instruments ever dedicated to education and public viewing. It is open Thursday and Friday evenings from 9-10pm (weather permitting). Call between 8:30-9pm to ensure the observatory will be open the night you plan to attend.

Cost: Free; Planetarium additional cost of $5/students (3-18 & Seniors (62+)); $10/adults.

Museum Hours:  Monday-Wednesday: 10-4pm; Thursday & Friday: 10am-9pm; Saturday: 10am-4pm
