Enjoy the Outdoors at Morgan Falls Overlook Park

July is National Parks and Recreation Month, so what better way to celebrate than to get outside and breathe some fresh air?  Grab the kids and get to recreating! Metro Atlanta has so many parks to choose from, too!  EAST COBBER’s Frugal FunMom picked a pretty park just a short drive (over the river and through the woods)from East Cobb! Enjoy the outdoors at Morgan Falls Overlook Park in Sandy Springs. Hike on one of the many walking trails, fish with your kids, and have some fun on the park playground. There’s plenty of fun for everyone in the family!

Summertime Fun at Seven Springs Water Park

Cobb County’s newest water park has four unique areas. The activity pool is 4 feet deep and has an in-water seating area and two basketball backboards. The spray-play area has many spray and fountain features. Behind the activity pool are two water slides. They exit into a 3.5 foot splash area that is connected to a leisure river of the same depth. There are pavilions available to rent as well as chairs and picnic tables on the deck. There is also a concession stand for food and refreshments. This Cobb County-owned facility is a thrifty alternative to White Water.

Cost: Children: $3.50;  Adults: $4.50;  and Seniors (60 and older):  $2.12 Cobb Aquatic center membership passes are accepted at the water park.

Time: Monday-Thursday: 1-7:30pm. Friday-Sunday: 1-6pm.

July is National Picnic Month and National Parks and Recreation Month.  Mtn. View Library is celebrating by offering some great picnic foods made from locally grown fruits and vegetables, learning about the National Parks, and playing some summer games.

Keep Cool By Visiting the CDC Museum

It’s probably another very HOT day in Atlanta, so why not keep you and your kids cool by road-tripping across town to the unique (and, FREE) CDC Museum? Ever wonder how CDC scientists merge old-fashioned detective work with high-tech science to crack the cases of mystery diseases? Get the Story! Visit the David J. Sencer CDC Museum at CDC Headquarters. This museum features award-winning permanent and changing exhibitions that focus on a variety of public health topics, as well as the history of CDC.

Cost: Free.

Time: Open Monday – Fridays: 9am – 5pm.  On Thursdays, the hours are 9am-7pm.

Visit the Georgia State Capitol and Museum

Experience the history of the Capitol by viewing artifacts, historic flags, artwork and a short film. Take advantage of the free tours offered Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Cost: Free. All visitors aged 18 and older must show photo identification to enter the capitol.

Time: Summer Tour Schedule: Walk-in guided tours are available for groups of 10 or less on Tuesdays at 10am and Thursdays at 11am from July 6-August 17. No reservation is required. Self-guided tours are also available weekdays 8 am – 5 pm.

Explore Unique Fairy Houses and Enchanted Gardens at Woodland Fairy Garden

Explore unique fairy houses and enchanted gardens. This wonderful roadside attraction features an enchanted garden filled with gnome and fairy houses. Children and the young-at-heart are free to wander the woodland landscape, explore the interiors of the larger gnome homes on the property and view the smaller fairy houses built into the hills.
