The Lassiter High School Girls Swim and Dive team solidified its dynasty status last week, capturing its seventh consecutive Georgia High School Association (GHSA) State Championship with a commanding 62-point victory.
Led by Head Coach Brittany Hughes, the Lassiter girls once again showcased depth, discipline, and a team-first culture that has defined the program’s sustained excellence.
“This was a really well-rounded group of girls,” Hughes said. “Everyone was all in for the team, and our senior leadership set the tone. They don’t get tired of winning.”
Senior Ashlyn Loftin continued her standout career, earning her second straight individual State Championship in the 100-yard Breaststroke. Loftin has been part of three consecutive team titles during her time at Lassiter.
“These have been the best memories of my life,” Loftin said. “The pride I carry in this team is very powerful.”
The celebration extended beyond the girls’ success. In a historic achievement, Lassiter also captured the GHSA Boys Swimming and Diving State Championship, marking the first boys’ state title in school history. The sweep of both boys and girls championships in the 5A classification gave Coach Hughes her eighth overall state title.
“Having the boys and girls win together was amazing,” Hughes said.
Lassiter Athletic Director Scott Kelly credited the program’s culture for its longevity. “Talent matters, but culture sustains excellence. There’s a clear standard of accountability and consistency that every swimmer buys into.”
Beyond the pool, Coach Hughes also serves as a school counselor at Lassiter and was recently recognized, along with the counseling team, for earning the Cobb School Counseling Comprehensive Model Certification. Lassiter Principal Dr. Chris Richie emphasized her broader impact.
