The community at Mount Bethel Elementary is demonstrating a powerful message of unity and compassion as students, staff, and families come together to support two members facing serious cancer diagnoses.

Former Mount Bethel student and current Dickerson Middle School student Jackson Jeffcoat was diagnosed with T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma (T-LBL) in December 2025 and continues to undergo treatment for the aggressive disease. At the same time, fourth-year EIP teacher Whitney Williamson is battling her second colon cancer diagnosis in two years.

In response, the Mount Bethel community organized a series of fundraising efforts, including custom T-shirt sales and proceeds from the school’s annual staff kickball game. The initiative raised funds for both the Jeffcoat and Williamson families, culminating in the presentation of two $1,600 checks at the event’s conclusion.

Students and staff participated in the kickball game wearing blue and yellow shirts reading, “Their Fight is Our Fight: Team Williamson and Jeffcoat,” symbolizing school wide solidarity.

“The Mount Bethel family is incredible. They surrounded me and have been here every single step of the way,” said Williamson. Jackson Jeffcoat’s mother, Erica Jeffcoat, also expressed gratitude for the community’s ongoing support, noting its lasting impact on her son and family during his treatment journey.

Beyond the school, support has extended into the wider community, including outreach from the Walton High School lacrosse team, which has also rallied around Jackson.

In addition to financial assistance, both families have received meals, consistent check-ins, and continued emotional support from the school community. Mount Bethel Elementary continues to stand with the Williamson and Jeffcoat families as they navigate their health battles, reinforcing the school’s commitment to compassion, care, and community.
