March marks the one year anniversary when the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic. Since then we have witnessed scenarios beyond our wildest imaginations. We experienced personal, professional and community challenges. From wacky “Twilight Zone” schedules, to expanding waistlines pushing our pajama elastic bands to their limits, to converting our homes into home- officeschools. We’ve had to adapt and shift. We need different things—masks, outdoor space, and generosity from each other to name a few. During this pandemic, we have witnessed some inspiring moments of humanity. As Frances Bacon said, “In order for the light to shine so brightly, the darkness must be present.” In the mix of this COVID chaos we can see clearly the beautiful lights among us, especially essential workers. We humbly thank our truck drivers, grocery store clerks, teachers, police, and of course, healthcare professionals. Kudos to the good neighbors that checked in on the lonely senior, donated food to those in need and other ways too long to list. Kudos to all of you who shined your light during this time of darkness. Enjoy this issue of EAST COBBER magazine, I hope it brightens your day while you read about all the good people and resources we are fortunate to have in our East Cobb community!
