Spring is a season of fresh starts and for countless cats and dogs in North Georgia, that fresh start often begins at Homeless Pets Foundation in Marietta. Founded in 1998 by an Atlanta veterinarian who recognized a growing need in the community, Homeless Pets Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit  rescue dedicated to saving abused, neglected, injured,  and at-risk animals who might otherwise be overlooked.

This volunteer-driven organization specializes in  medical and high-risk rescues. Animals who arrive sick,  neglected, or facing euthanasia are provided the urgent  care, rehabilitation, and love they need before finding  forever homes. Their mission is simple but powerful: every  life matters.

What sets Homeless Pets Foundation apart is its community-centered approach. The shelter works closely with  veterinarians, fosters, and volunteers to ensure each animal is fully prepared for adoption. Pets receive vaccinations, spay/neuter services, microchipping, and ongoing  care. Adoption appointments are handled thoughtfully  through an application process designed to create the  right match between pet and family.

The organization’s impact extends beyond adoptions. Weekly volunteer opportunities like Sunday Pack Walks and Puppy Playtime allow approved volunteers to socialize and exercise dogs while building community with  fellow animal lovers. Volunteers are truly the backbone  of the foundation, assisting with dog walking, cat care,  adoption events, transport, and administrative support.

For those unable to adopt, donations of funds or  supplies directly support medical treatment, food, shelter  operations, and life-saving surgeries. Every contribution  helps give a second chance to an animal in need.

In a community that values compassion and service,  Homeless Pets Foundation stands as a reminder that  small acts of kindness can change lives — both human  and animal.
