The Georgia PTA named Felicia Angelle, the principal of Shallowford Falls Elementary, as their 2016 Outstanding Elementary Principal of the Year. Principal Angelle, who is beginning her fifth year as principal at Shallowford Falls, was honored at the Georgia PTA Convention in June. Principals were judged on their welcoming attitude and collaboration with parents and the community, support of student success, communication skills and leadership qualities.
During her years as principal, she has participated in reading promotions by challenging the assistant principal to a joust and a chariot race during book fairs. To promote the PTA fall fundraisers, Principal Angelle and Assistant Principal Jill Spiva camped out on the roof of the school and most recently, transformed into a human ice cream sundae as students poured ice cream and toppings on them.
“It is all about developing and inspiring a cohesive team to do what’s best for students,” Principal Angelle said when asked how initiatives have helped the school and the students at Shallowford Falls.
Principal Angelle hinted that there is another surprise in store this year as she and the PTA board plan for their annual fundraiser.
“We have always had a strong PTA,” Principal Angelle said. “However, when I became Principal here, I aligned myself with the parent groups (PTA and Foundation) so we could create a shared vision for student success.”
