Cobb County School District’s spring break runs from April 3-7. If you aren’t taking off for 30A or Hilton Head, here are some fun camps and activities for your kids to do locally over spring break.

SPRING BREAK LEARN TO ROW

April 3-7, 10am-12noon, $150

Participants will learn the fundamentals of sweep rowing. Additionally, each camper learns about the sport, equipment, terminology, and safety of moving boats on and off the water. Each session begins with a basic workout program, and everyone participates in rowing on the Chattahoochee River.

 

 

SPRING BREAK CAMP AT CAMP KINGFISHER

Come enjoy the re-bloom of spring with Camp Kingfisher. This 5-day session is packed with animals, hikes and camp fun. Open to current K-7th grades.

Spring Break Camp is a 5-day camp experience filled with exciting animal encounters, outdoor play, and educational hikes exploring 127 acres at CNC! Daily schedules include indoor and outdoor FUN built around spring ecology themes like “Forests-a-bloom” or “Spring Pollinators!” Come see the Chattahoochee River teaming wildlife and hike through our forest abloom with new flowers and bright green leaves. Of course, we’ll have lots of good ole’ camp fun like singing silly songs, laughing at camper skits, creating eco-crafts. This is a GREAT way to try out camp before the summer.

 

 

GEORGIA AQUARIUM

The aquarium suggests the following experiences during spring break:

  • Animal Encounters: A behind-the-scenes experience with an aquatic animal
  • SunTrust Pier 221: A live sea lion training session
  • The AT&T Dolphin Celebration
  • Behind-the-Scenes Tours
  • The 4D Funbelievable Theater

The aquarium gives a discount of 20% on weekdays and 10% on weekends when you buy your tickets online and choose an arrival time between 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

And if you’re a Georgia resident, you can visit the aquarium for free on your birthday by showing you ID at a ticket window.

 

 

HYDE FARM

721 Hyde Road in Marietta/East Cobb

A free fishing clinic for youth will be at Hyde Farm on April 1, 8, 15 and 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fishing gear and lunch will be provided.

“Teach a Child to Fish” is a nonprofit organization with the mission of mentoring youth through fishing programs and helping help find their own true value of life, while preserving and protecting the great outdoors.

KENNESAW MOUNTAIN NATIONAL BATTLEFIELD PARK

All park programming is free and open to the public. No registration required. Programs start at Visitor Center except when noted otherwise.

♦ Every day at 1 p.m. will be a ranger-led museum tour. Participants can join a Kennesaw Mountain Park Ranger for an in-depth exploration of the museum chronicling the events surrounding the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain.

♦ April 2 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. will be a guided mountain hike. Participants can join in for a family-friendly, ranger-led 2.3-mile round-trip hike to the top of Big Kennesaw Mountain. The guided portion of the hike will end at the mountain summit.

♦ April 3 from 11 to 11:45 a.m. will be Freaky, Funky Furs. This interactive display showcases the furs and pelts of animals that call the park home. Participants can feel different furs and learn about various animals’ habitats.

♦ April 4 from 11 to 11:45 a.m. will be Kid Cannon Crew. Participants can play the role of a Civil War cannon crew member in this interactive artillery program.

♦ April 5 from 1 to 3 p.m. will be Hike Through History — a moderately strenuous, 2.3-mile round-trip guided hike to the top of Big Kennesaw Mountain, encountering historical guests along the way. The guided portion of the hike will end at mountain summit.

♦ April 6 from 11 to 11:45 a.m. will be Compare and Contrast. A living history presentation comes to life detailing the differences and similarities between the Union and Confederate soldier of 1864.

♦ April 7 from 11 to 11:45 a.m. will be Raptor Rapture. Participants can learn about and observe local birds of prey and how they are perfectly adapted to survive and hunt. This program features live raptors and interactive demonstrations.

♦ April 8 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. will be Roosevelt’s Tree Army. Participants can learn about the Civilian Conservation Corps and their presence at the mountain on a guided one-mile hike to their 1930’s camp.

♦ April 9 at 11 a.m., noon, 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. will be Artillery Demonstrations. In these popular demonstrations, participants can discover how a Civil War artillery crew loaded and fired their cannons. All demos end with a live black powder firing. These 30-minute programs include a short talk accompanied by a cannon shoot.

Yoga. This class will help create body awareness, strengthen and stretch muscles and tissues, improve balance, posture and coordination.
