Leaders of Taste of East Cobb are taking a unique approach to this year’s event and asking local residents to order take-out meals on Memorial Day weekend as a way to show support for the many local sponsors, restaurants and vendors who have supported the annual food and community event in the past. To promote this year’s effort, they are temporarily changing their name from Taste of East Cobb to Taste of TAKE-OUT East Cobb.

In honor of the tradition of Taste of East Cobb being held on a Saturday, event leaders are asking the public to order takeout on Saturday, May 23, 2020.

“We know that our East Cobb restaurants and businesses are hurting as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said David Wilson, Taste of East Cobb 2020 event co-chair. “Ordering a take-out meal for the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend is an easy way to help your neighbor and show how much you appreciate the businesses that have helped make East Cobb what it is today.”

“East Cobb’s dining options have exploded during the past few years,” said Amy Davies, Taste of East Cobb 2020 event co-chair. “We are temporarily changing our name to Taste of TAKE-OUT East Cobb to encourage people to act now, when it is needed the most, by patronizing our local restaurants and businesses.”

“Dealing with the pandemic doesn’t have to mean eating the same boring home-cooked meals over and over again,” Davies added. “This is a great time to order something new and try an East Cobb restaurant or shop you may not have visited before.”

Open to all East Cobb restaurants, businesses seeking a mention can contact 2020 event co-chairs, David Wilson and Amy Davies, at tasteofeastcobb@gmail.com.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says there is currently no evidence to suggest COVID-19 can be transmitted by food or food packaging, according to media reports.

Known as “The Most Delicious Saturday of the Year”, Taste of East Cobb, originally scheduled to take place on May 2, 2020, has been postponed to an undetermined later date due to the novel coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.
