The Butterfly Encounter returns for a colorful summer at the Chattahoochee Nature Center! Visit the nature center’s most popular exhibit and experience the magic of being up close to butterflies from June 5th to August 6th, presented by Fulton County and Northside Hospital.

Create beautiful memories as you view hundreds of native butterflies in an enclosure bursting with vibrant nectar plants. As you watch these colorful creatures dance from flower to flower, you will even get a chance to feed them with a nectar stick. Be sure to bring your camera! The Butterfly Encounter is an exhibit where memories are made, and every photo becomes a personal keepsake.

Butterfly Encounter attendants will be on-hand to help you learn all about these amazing pollinators. For example, the popular Monarch butterfly is just one of the colorful species you will find in the Butterfly Encounter. This butterfly is known to migrate the longest distance, each year flying from North America down to Mexico. They can travel up to 2,800 miles or more one way! What you may not know is that it only likes to lay eggs on the milkweed plant, and caterpillars only feed on milkweed. If there are no milkweed plants available, the butterfly will not lay its eggs, leading to population decline. For those who would like to support their native butterfly friends, host and nectar plants will be available for sale daily so you can start your own pollinator garden.

The Butterfly Encounter is included with General Admission and FREE to CNC members, become a member and see the butterflies throughout the summer. Members also receive early access to the Butterfly Encounter on select days.

Looking for a one-on-one experience? Breakfast with Butterflies lets you enjoy a light breakfast, experience several species of butterflies, and explore the grounds prior to opening. Three sessions will be available on June 18, July 9, and August 6. Register by the Thursday before each session.

For those wanting to hone their photography skills, a photography workshop will be available with private access to the butterflies and butterfly garden.

This special exhibit attracts visitors all summer long. To secure your preferred dates, please purchase admission tickets in advance, which include a date and time to visit the center.
