The Stonehaven School (formerly Atlanta Classical Christian Academy) is enjoying its 12th year providing an excellent Christian and classical liberal arts education in Cobb County. Stonehaven is located in the heart of Marietta at GracePointe Marietta Church just south of the Marietta Square. We are an independent private Christian school (PreK-8th grade) rooted in the classical liberal arts tradition. A Christ-centered classical philosophy of education seeks to partner with parents in cultivating children that possess wisdom, virtue, and eloquence. We invite prospective families to visit Stonehaven for a tour where you can learn more about the distinctive features of a classical Christian education.

What is the purpose of education?

How a school answers this fundamental question will influence every aspect of its academic program. How a family answers this question will influence the type of school they choose for their child. The end goal of most modern schools is to prepare a child for two things: college and work. Although Stonehaven is not opposed to preparing a child for college and work, we want to aim higher. C.S. Lewis said, “Aim at heaven and you will get earth thrown in. Aim at earth and you get neither.” Stonehaven’s mission aims at heaven; we seek to glorify God by cultivating truth, goodness and beauty in students through a distinctly Christ-centered classical education.

Why choose a Christ-centered, classical education for your child?

Children will spend the majority of hours in their formative years in school. Biblically, the primary responsibility for educating children rests with parents. God calls parents to bring up their children in “the nurture and admonition of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4) and to diligently teach them God’s commandments (Deuteronomy 6). Consider the importance of partnering with your child’s school in this venture.

How should your child’s education challenge him?

A Stonehaven education is as rigorous as you’ll find, but it’s rigorous in a way that engages students… teaching them to think for themselves… teaching them to logically and gracefully defend their beliefs… and teaching them the art and love of learning. A classical education lays a solid foundation that will guide and inspire them for a lifetime.

Why seek a school that encourages parent involvement?

Involved, engaged families make for a warm and loving school community. Stonehaven parents, grandparents, siblings, and other family members are encouraged to actively participate in the life of the school. Our families feel connected with one another and students benefit from this atmosphere.

How important is the culture of a school and the behavior of its students?

At Stonehaven we place high expectations on our students and they are capable of meeting them. In fact, they are happy to. Students are taught to respect one another and are encouraged to address their behavioral mistakes in a way that shapes their hearts. Students are taught to respect adults, to address them politely, to look them in the eye, to shake their hands, and to have meaningful conversation. It’s refreshing! We think our students are some of the most pleasant kids to be around… and these expectations actually provide a more joyful school experience for our children.

If Jesus is Lord, He is Lord of all. What does Jesus have to do with education? Everything. He has everything to do with everything. For more information or to schedule a school tour, visit www.stonehavenschool.org or call 770-874-8885.
