The Cobb County School District Police Department recently honored K-9 Sadie, its longtime narcotics detection dog, during a special retirement ceremony celebrating her 11 years of service helping keep Cobb Schools safe.

Since partnering with Officer Marshall Duling in 2015, Sadie played a key role in the district’s proactive school safety efforts, assisting officers in detecting illegal substances and supporting safe, drug-free learning environments across Cobb Schools.

Known not only for her work ethic but also for her friendly personality, Sadie became a familiar and beloved presence in schools throughout the district. Students and staff eagerly welcomed her visits, where she often helped build positive connections between the school community and law enforcement.

“For her, working is play,” said Officer Duling. “When she walks into a building, she immediately goes into search mode. It’s the hunt that she likes.”

Over the years, Sadie and Officer Duling formed a close bond while serving schools across Cobb County. Following retirement, Sadie will remain with the Duling family, enjoying a well-earned retirement at home.

Sadie’s career reflects the Cobb County School District’s broader commitment to school safety through Cobb Shield, the district’s comprehensive safety initiative that combines prevention, preparedness, mental health supports, technology, training, and law enforcement partnerships to create secure learning environments for students and staff.

While Sadie may be retiring from active duty, her impact on the Cobb community will be remembered for years to come.
