The Cobb County School District has scheduled a winter break for students from February 17-21. A chilly week at home in the middle of the winter, with nothing to do, is many a parent’s worst nightmare. Keep everyone happy (and sane) by enrolling the kids in one of these entertaining day camps and/or activities in and around East Cobb. Check out the list below for some ideas.

 

CAMPS: FEBRUARY 17-20

Young Chefs Academy Culinary Camp. Campers experience the flavors of the season through an immersive culinary adventure empowering them to grow in their knowledge of the culinary arts and self-confidence. Champion Kids Camp. Open Play Camp – Art Camp from 1-3 pm with The PEA Studio (Monday – Friday) for an additional $15 per day. Fort Attack at Sewell Mill Library & Cultural Center. Use your STEAM engineering skills to build an impenetrable fort at Sewell Mill Library & Cultural Center. Attempt fort destruction with your homemade catapults. All supplies will be provided but if you have extra empty paper towel rolls bring them with you! No registration is required. Tween STEAM: Bloxels. It’s Winter Break. Don’t just sit on the couch playing video games – design your own! This program will introduce you to Bloxels, a 13-bit game builder that helps you create the old-school video game of your dreams! Wonderlab–Penguin Problems. Wonderlab is a space for children in grades K-2 to explore, create, and investigate! Penguins have adapted to live in a harsh climate. How do they stay warm in the cold and snow? Why does the ocean not totally freeze over which allows penguins to swim and catch food all winter? Preschool STEM with Cobb 4-H : States of Matter. Get out your lab coat and goggles! Cobb 4-H STEM instructor, Kathleen McElroy, opens up the world of science to preschool children and their adults. Fun and hands-on, these interactive STEM workshops will peak preschoolers’ curiosity about the world around them. There will be two sessions at 10:15am and 11:15am. Free but, registration required. Tween Book Group: I Survived the Eruption of Mount St. Helens. Join other tweens for a book discussion about an eleven-year-old growing up near Mount St. Helens. She knew at any time the volcano could erupt and devastate the entire town. Read about what life was like when the deadliest, destructive volcanic event happened in the United States in, “I Survived the Eruption of Mount St. Helens” by Lauren Tarshis. Kids Cursive. This program is for cursive beginners 8 years and up. Students will learn letters, practice their names, and play fun games to reinforce their skills! Spy School. The mission should choose to accept is to complete Spy School at Sewell Mill Library & Cultural Center. In order to gain entrance into this elite training you will need the secret password to enter: Super Spy Silly Pants. You will learn to read coded messages, use invisible ink, and try out forensic finger printing! Are you up to the task of earning your Sewell Mill Spy Badge?
