Celebrating Cinco de Mayo will look a little different this year due to the coronavirus crisis.
Still, despite East Cobb’s bars’ and restaurants’ dining rooms being temporarily closed due to COVID-19 mitigation efforts, many eateries are keeping the fiesta going with tacos, nachos and other Mexican specialties available for curbside pick-up, take-out and/or delivery.
The celebration, marking the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla, this year appropriately falls on Taco Tuesday, a weekly occurrence among many American restaurants choosing to offer discounted tacos, margaritas and other marketing promotions.
Here are some local Mexican restaurants continuing to serve up Mexican favorites in the age of social distancing:
* Chipotle is celebrating Cinco de Mayo by offering free Queso Blanco and extending its free delivery offer through May 10. Customers ordering digitally via the Chipotle app or Chipotle.com can use promo code QUESO55 at checkout to receive free Queso Blanco when it is added to an entrée on May 5.
El Huarache Veloz Mexican Taqueria
* Taco Bell will be selling DIY taco kits nationwide to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. The offer is available via delivery and contactless drive-thrus for a limited time.
* TO GO Cinco Party Pack is the perfect way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. It includes a family style taco pack, three amigos, and a gallon of margarita mix to make margs at home. Just need to add your own tequila. Feeds 4 to 5 members of your fam and costs $50
* Our tacos want to party at your place so grab your Taco Boxes today because it’s the last Tuesday for $5 OFF!
We know Cinco de Mayo isn’t the same without the restaurant ambiance but you can still get in the spirit at home. To add just the right atmosphere crank up your stereo, and listen to Mexican singers like Selena Quintanilla, Jose Jose, Luis Miguel and Juan Gabriel. Or watch some Netflix and watch movies Like Water for Chocolate, Roma and 7:19 or shows like The House of Flowers, Rubi and Club de Cuervos.
Happy Cinco de Mayo, East Cobb!
