Each year, Cobb high schools rank among the best in Georgia, according to U.S. News and World Report. Cobb high schools topped the list again this year, and Dickerson Middle School claimed the #1 title for Georgia middle schools.
Dodgen Middle School was close behind, seizing the #3 spot. In fact, Cobb is home to four of the top 25 middle schools in Georgia: Mabry Middle School and Hightower Trail Middle School round out the top 25 list, respectively.
Eight more Cobb schools, for a total of 12, made the top 100 Georgia middle schools: Awtrey Middle School, Durham Middle School, Lost Mountain Middle School, Lovinggood Middle School, McCleskey Middle School, McClure Middle School, Palmer Middle School, and Simpson Middle School.
According to U.S. News and World Report, the rankings can help families determine the best local schools for their children, and the “top-ranked schools are all high-achieving and have succeeded at educating all their students.”
“These rankings confirm what we can’t say often enough: Cobb is one of the best places in the country to raise a family, thanks to the quality of our teachers and schools,” said Board Chair Randy Scamihorn.
The U.S. News Best High Schools rankings include data on nearly 25,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. Nearly 18,000 schools were ranked on six factors based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college.
Of the 400+ high schools in Georgia, 3 Cobb high schools are in the top 25, including Walton High School, which ranks 4th in the state. Lassiter High School and Pope High School also made the top 25.
The list places 11 Cobb high schools in the top 100: Allatoona High School, Lassiter High School, Pope High School, Harrison High School, Hillgrove High School, Kell High School, Kennesaw Mountain High School, North Cobb High School, Sprayberry High School, Walton High School, and Wheeler High School.
Nationally, six high schools in Cobb rank among the top 6% of public high schools: Harrison High School, Hillgrove High School, Lassiter High School, Pope High School, Walton High School, and Wheeler High School. Walton High School also scored in the top 100 for the nation’s STEM schools.
