Diwali, Festival of Lights. Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights, which is celebrated every autumn in the northern hemisphere. One of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, Diwali symbolizes the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance.” People adorn themselves in their finest clothes, illuminate the interior and exterior of their homes with lamps and candles, offer prayers, light fireworks, partake in family feasts, where sweets and gifts are shared. The Dixie Swim Club Dinner and a Show. Five Southern women, whose friendships began on their college swim team, set aside a long weekend every August to recharge those relationships. Free from husbands, kids and jobs, they meet at the same beach cottage on North Carolina’s Outer Banks to catch up, laugh and meddle in each other’s lives. Focusing on four of those weekends that spans 33 years. As their lives unfold and the years pass, these women increasingly rely on one another to get through the challenges that life flings at them.
